We are in the process of moving from Yuendumu in the NT to Berry on the south coast of NSW. Its a big change after 6 years in the desert.

We moved to Yuendumu in late 2005 to work for PAW Media and Communications. We thought we were going to be here for 18 months but stayed for six years. We’ve got Warlpiri skin names which we miss being called when we are away from Yuendumu and a smattering of Warlpiri.

We set up garden beds, planted trees,  got chickens and a couple of camp dogs in Yuendumu.  Our previous life in Sydney was an inner city house with a small garden and lots of city bussle. Our new NSW life is in the temperate south coast forests, with lots of gardening to do and lots of wildlife around us. It’s remote in terms of telecommunications – no mobiles, not TV or radio except by satellite, but shopping is only 15 minutes away. We laugh when we think of our shopping trips in the NT where its 4 hours along rough roads to get to the shops.  Its been quite a journey.

Our Moving Lines website used to be a business website with information about what we did and how you could contact us. We got business through it, even if sometimes the phone calls were about asking for a quote for moving house from one suburb to another.

Now our site is just for this and that as the mood strikes us and about anything we want to share. We are parents and grandparents, we experienced life under the NT Intervention, we are learning more about living sustainably and how to garden in the variety of environments, we are trying to grapple with issues of what will happen to us when we retire, we are worried about the planet.
