Digital video editing services
The ubiquity of video cameras today has resulted in thousands of miniDV
tapes lying on desktops, shelves and even left inside cameras. Etched on
the tape are memories, eye-witness accounts, stories and heritage. Turning
the
tape
into a meaningful story takes not only technology skills but the ability
to focus on the stories held in those tapes. Moving Lines combines video
editing skills with documentary video skills to support you turn your miniDV
into a precious resource.

Technologies,
processes and distribution media
The approach of Moving Lines to digital video editing is a collaborative one that we stage through a number of steps.
Step 1 The Raw Footage
We sit with you to watch your precious footage, and record your reactions and information to what is happening on screen. We talk with you about what has happened on screen and the parts of the footage that has excited you, moved you, filled in the gaps, made something clear to you.
Step 2 Developing the Story or Structure
We then work up a summarised script for the video showing the development of the story held in the vision and sound. Our goal is to create an end product that you can share with friends, work colleagues, students, and family. We'll also work with you on the legal aspects of including people in your video if you intend to show the video publicly.
Once you are happy with the story its time to start editing.
Step 3 Editing the Rough Cut
We will assemble a draft video for your approval. The draft is called a rough cut and it is quite rough. In this stage we are concentrating on getting the story right - is everyone in it that should be shown (for example are all the important relatives shown on a wedding video), does the story flow well, is the pacing right, is there too much of one thing and not enough of the other? We'll show you the rough cut and work with you to get it right. We use Sony Vegas as our preferred editing technology.
Step
4 Editing the Fine Cut
This is where we start to turn your footage into a professional product. We will carry out any colour corrections needed, fix framing problems, fine tune transitions between clips, add titles and credits and importantly ensure the soundtrack is as clear and as crisp as possible. You'll see a final cut before we proceed to transferring your footage onto your distribution media.
Step 5 Transferring to Distribution Media
Right from the outset we will have discussed with you the output you want from your footage. Moving Lines is able to transfer your footage into any one or more of these forms:
DVD
CD
VHS video
Internet forms such as .wmv, Quicktime, Real.
We'll work with you to find the best forms for your purpose.
Packages
and costs
Editing is heavy on time. A minute of final footage can take a variable number of hours to edit depending on the quality of the original footage and the type of edit required. A good rule of thumb is that it will take about a week full time, or 40 hours at the computer, to edit 2 hours of footage. Depending on the footage there may be a shorter or longer time involved in viewing the raw footage and charting out the story.
To help with managing costs we offer two video editing packages.
Clean up only package
This package is about editing out all the "mistakes" from your raw footage - the too fast pan, the too out of focus bits, the in between bits of garbage bins or dogs that got in the way when you panned from one place to another.
The rest of the video will stay as it is, in the same order, with no transitions, or titles. We'll format your footage back onto minDV and/or onto VHS tape.
Cost : We charge AUD$560 plus 10% GST a day for clean up. This is generally sufficient for one hour of footage. If you have great footage and we take less time, we'll charge you less.
Full edit package
This package is about creating a story or coherent information flow from your footage. We'll work with you to get a proper story line or structure in place, clean up the video, edit and reorder sequences, add effects and transitions, sweeten the sound track. We provide you with a variety of media format options for the final product, including DVD, CD, online, and VHS.
Cost : We charge AUD$55 an hour, plus 10% GST, for editing and consultation. Contact us to discuss your project and needs and we'll provide a quotation.
Other
services
Contact us to discuss your needs for filming of your event or activity. We are able to provide a camera person, lighting and a sound recordist where needed.
